Alfredo Colmán, Simone Krueger-Bridge and Timothy Watkins
Professor Dr. Simone Krüger Bridge is Chair of the Graduate Research Committee of the Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies (APS) at Liverpool John Moores University, UK. Her research interests involve cultural sociology, ethnomusicology and popular music studies. Alfredo Colman is a Paraguayan, associate professor of Musicology/Ethnomusicology at Baylor University. Before coming to Baylor, he was professor of music at the Universidad Evangélica del Paraguay, and in the U.S., at Southwestern University and the University of Texas. Professor Timoteo D. Watkins, Timo as his friends affectionately call him, grew up in Ciudad del Este, where he spent his childhood and youth, and moved to the USA to continue his undergraduate and graduate studies. He is a professor of musicology at Texas Christian University and his work concentrates mainly on researching the music of Paraguay and Latin America, focusing especially on the musical consequences of the encounter between European and indigenous cultures.

Nicolás Ramírez Salaberry and Migue Antar
Professor Migue Antar did his undergraduate, master's and doctoral studies at the Department of Music of the Faculty of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo. He is a member of the Sonoligy Research Center (NuSom) of the University of São Paulo and the Orquestra Errante, a music laboratory linked to NuSom. She develops research on Paraguayan music, technological mediation and multidisciplinary creation processes. He has participated in several festivals in countries such as Germany, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, United States, England, Luxemburg, Paraguay, Portugal and Uruguay. Prof. Maestro Nicolas Ramírez Salaberry was trained in orchestral conducting at the University of São Paulo, and received his master's degree at the Universidade Estadual Paulista. He was a scholarship holder in music education courses in Japan. He is a professor at the Faculty of Music of the National University of Asuncion (FADA-UNA). From the lens of musicology and ethnomusicology, he conducts research on Paraguayan symphonic works, orchestral-choral conducting, composition and arrangements.

Evandro Higa
Professor Evandro Higa has a PhD in Music, graduated from the Institute of Arts of the Universidade Estatall Paulista (UNESP), and holds a Master's Degree in Musicology from the University of São Paulo (USP) and a Bachelor's Degree in Piano from the Brazilian Conservatory of Music in Rio de Janeiro. He is a professor of Music at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul and author of the books "Polca Paraguaya, Guarania y Chamamé" and "Para hacer llorar a las piedras: guaranias y rasgueados en un Brasil fronterizo".

Gaya Makaran
Professor Gaya Makaran is a Latin Americanist and a member of the Center for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She holds a PhD in Humanities and Literature Sciences, having studied at the University of Warsaw, Poland. Her lines of research focus on the state and indigenous peoples of contemporary Bolivia and Paraguay, as well as nationalism, autonomy and social emancipation in Latin America. Miguel Antar y Nicolás Ramírez Salaberry
Nicolás Ramírez Salaberry es profesor de la Facultad de Música de FADA-UNA, tiene una maestría en Musicología-Etnomusicología y junto con Miguel Antar, músico e investigador, que tiene una maestría y un doctorado en el Departamento de Música de la Facultad de Comunicación y Artes de la Universidad de São Paulo tendrán a su cargo la última conferencia de este ciclo. Ambos abordarán el contexto sociohistórico del movimiento Nuevo Cancionero, sus festivales y el uso de grabaciones caseras como herramienta de difusión y resistencia. También hablarán de la trayectoria Celsa Ramírez Rodas, arpista paraguaya perseguida durante la dictadura militar de Alfredo Stroessner. Presentado por Banco Itaú, con el auspicio de la Fundación Itaú y el apoyo de Toyotoshi S.A., Americas Society y BKM Berkemeyer.

It is a series of conferences presented by members of the recently formed Virtual Society of Paraguayan Musicology and special guests, through the Youtube platform, where they will discuss past, present and future of Paraguayan music approached from the scientific rigor of the most prominent musicologists and ethnomusicologists who are grouped in this association.

Timoteo D. Watkins

Timoteo D. Watkins is a professor of musicology at Texas Christian University and his work concentrates primarily on researching the music of the PY and Latin America. He has published articles and chapters in several musicological books and journals to name a couple: The Journal of Musicological Research, The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music, The Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments. He is editor of the forthcoming Cuaderno de Musica Folklorica y Popular de la Sudamerica Hispana published by Rowman & Littlefield.

Elisa Lezcano Verón

Elisa Lezcano Verón es paraguaya, Licenciada en Música y Magíster en Estudios Interdisciplinarios Latinoamericanos con énfasis en cultura y música paraguaya en la Universidad Federal de Integración Latinoamericana de Foz de Iguazú- Brasil. Actualmente Elisa se encuentra cursando el Diplomado en Planificación y Ejecución de Proyectos de Tesis, junto con la Habilitación Pedagógica para el ejercicio de la docencia en la educación secundaria. Es docente en las carreras de Licenciatura en Música de la Universidad Nacional del Este, Universidad Nacional de Caaguazú, en la Universidad Nacional de Villarrica y en el Conservatorio de Música "Sofía Mendoza" dependiente de la Universidad Nacional de Pilar.

Alfredo Colmán

Alfredo Colmán is a Paraguayan, associate professor of Musicology/Ethnomusicology at Baylor University. Before coming to Baylor, he was a professor of music at the Universidad Evangélica del Paraguay, and in the USA, at Southwestern University and the University of Texas. He was educated at Belmont University, Baylor University and received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas. He has published extensively. His articles appear in The Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments, the Bloomsbury Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World, Latin American Music Review, among many others.

Miguel Antar

A researcher and musician, Miguel Antar completed his undergraduate, master's and doctoral studies at the Department of Music of the School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA-USP). He obtained his first certification as a musician at the Ateneo Paraguayo. He develops research on Paraguayan Music, Technological Mediation and Multidisciplinary Creation Processes. His discography as an instrumentalist has 15 albums and participated in several festivals in countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, England, Germany, Luxembourg, Paraguay, Portugal, United States and Uruguay.

Nicolás Ramírez Salaberry

Nicolás Ramírez Salaberry, Paraguayan, has been a professor at the Faculty of Music of FADA-UNA, Paraguay since 2019. He holds a master's degree in Musicology-Ethnomusicology, from the Universidad Estatal Paulista. He graduated in Orchestral/Choral Conducting at the University of São Paulo. In addition, he received a scholarship for music education studies in Japan. He is "Superior Professor of Theory and Solfeggio", at the School of Music "Mtro. Herminio Giménez", and among other functions, he also teaches in several musical institutions in Paraguay.

Romy Martínez

Romy Martínez is a Paraguayan, multilingual singer, teacher and ethnomusicologist. Her musical career and academic training are divided between Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina. She is the founder of Trio Purahéi. She has been living in the United Kingdom since 2018, where she is a PhD candidate in Ethnomusicology at the Department of Music, Royal Holloway University of London. The first Paraguayan to obtain such a high academic degree.

Matt Dicken

Matt Dicken, from England, is a PhD student and lecturer in Ethnomusicology at Bath Spa University, UK. He works as a guitar teacher at Bath Spa University and Badminton School in Bristol.

Professor at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, author of the books "Polca Paraguaia, Guarania e Chamame" (2010) and "Para Fazer Chorar as Pedras: Guaranias e Rasqueados em um Brasil fronteiriço" (2019), in addition to several articles on Paraguayan music and its hybridizations in Brazilian culture.

Prof. Dra. Gaya Makaran

Researcher at the Center for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (CIALC) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Her research interests are the Latin American State and indigenous peoples, identity phenomena, nationalism and ethnicity in South America (Bolivia and Paraguay).
